News

Yes, there is a reason I haven't posted lately. It's because I knew I couldn't post the "fun" stuff until I posted the crappy stuff.

Friday night Keith got a call that was a devastating blow to our family. Keith's Dad, Wayne, has been diagnosed with ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease, specifically bulbar onset (which means it affects his speech first).

Life expectancy with this disease is short, there is no cure, but of course we are praying for a slow progression. I don't really know what to say, I knew I needed to let everyone know. And I won't lie, it has been hard. Sadness for us comes in waves. The treatment is expensive, the medication is expensive, the heartache is expensive.

Oh no! I am so sorry to hear that. I know that we haven't known each other very long, but, please, let me know what I can do to help you and your family.

Y'all* (inclusive of the whole of the family) have not been far from our thoughts since we heard.
*From that Trivial Pursuit game we played years ago, I think the correct term is "all y'all."

My dad had Multiple Sclerosis, an extremely debilitating disease, from the time I was 8. I know what it's like to have a parent go through something like that and it's definitely not easy. I was young and probably took the time we had for granted. So don't do what I did and take time for granted and just be supportive!

Here's a link to a photographer I follow whose dad was also recently diagnosed with ALS:

Keith, your momma called me yesterday and gave me the sad news. I'm so sorry. I do have a lot of good childhood memories of your Daddy. Do you realize I met him when I was 7? I always thought it was very nice that he would not get upset when us girls would come & stay for weeks on end during the summer. I love you.
Love, Aunt Lisa (shannon, thank you for being a good wife to Keith & a good mother too.)
